The only thing you hear … is the whirl of your fly and the sound of the water
There’s nothing quite like fishing in Montana’s high country to take the stress out of life. Enjoy fishing on spring-fed trout ponds at the ranch, as well as on the Sun River and Gibson Lake. This is a great place for fly-fishing instruction to whet your appetite for fishing Rainbow, Cutthroat, or Brown trout. Whether a beginner or experienced angler, fishing is a delight.
Fly fishing for wild trout in the Sun River, surrounded by beautiful scenery, is the dream of many anglers. The peak fishing season runs from mid-June through August, with activity tapering off as water levels decrease. If you are up for an all-day adventure, we offer unique fly-fishing excursions by horseback to the North Fork of the Sun River, available from early June through the end of July.
We would be happy to provide suggestions based on the best practices at different times of the year. By September, fly fishing becomes more challenging, and while we can offer instruction on the trout ponds, river trips are drop-off and DIY.
We provide basic beginner fishing equipment, but serious fishermen should plan to bring their gear. Extra flies that work in the area are available for sale. A fishing license can be obtained online at Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.
